Pos Indonesia to sell airline tickets at post offices

Pos Indonesia has signed a partnership agreement with state-owned airline Garuda Indonesia that will see travellers able to purchase airline tickets at post office counters. The deal follows up a memorandum of understanding signed by the two state-owned companies back in March.

Pos Indonesia has agreed to provide counter sales and host self-service kiosks for Garuda Indonesia in post offices within South, East and Central Jakarta as well as in Solo, Bandung, Jambi, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Surbaya and Tanjungkarang.

The participating post offices will be able to help Garuda Indonesia customers make reservations, purchase tickets and even check in.

Through kiosks, customers will also be able to find flight information and check in online in some post offices.

The partnership with Pos Indonesia comes as part of Garuda Indonesia’s efforts to expand its presence beyond travel agents and its own office, call centre and website.

The airline’s president and CEO Emirsyah Satar said: “Through the Garuda Indonesia sales counters and booths in the post office, we want to get closer to our customers, and considering that Pos Indonesia has branch offices throughout Indonesia, it offers another alternative for purchasing tickets.”

I Ketut Mardjana, the president at Pos Indonesia, said: “This cooperation can reinforce the business relationship between Pos Indonesia and Garuda Indonesia, especially in the efforts by both companies to improve services and convenience for service users.”

Pos Indonesia already works with Garuda Indonesia in using its air cargo services to ship mail and parcels, but opening up the retail network for airline ticket sales potentially offers access to more than 3,800 post offices that currently have access to the latest internet and mobile technology.

In all, the postal operator has as many as 24,000 service points that can reach almost all cities, counties and districts in Indonesia, the world’s fourth most populous country with a population of 238m.
