FedEx Express has expanded its facility at Hong Kong airport to allow greater cargo handling capacity and boost its time-definite services in the region.
The company said it has expanded its floor space at the airport by 37% to 4,695 square metres (50,536 square feet), adding new equipment and storage capacity for more efficient cargo handling, while boosting staff numbers by 5%.
It said the improvement means the facility can now process three freighter loads of cargo in just under 45 minutes.
There are now 14 trucking docks at the site and four direct ramp access gates, while new equipment includes a second extendable conveyor belt for loading and unloading packages, two new scissor lifts for airfreight containers to add to the existing three, and five docks for pallet shipments.
The facility also has 748 square metres of new caster decks installed to accommodate more airfreight containers and allow faster movement of freight shipments directly to the ramp, FedEx said.
Anthony Leung, the managing director at FedEx Express Hong Kong and Macau, said the expansion was part of his company’s continuous improvement of customer experience.
“The Hong Kong airport facility is constantly ranked number one in on-time performance among all the FedEx facilities around the world,” he said. “This expansion will further strengthen our ability to ensure our customers’ satisfaction and ease of mind with FedEx’s reliable, efficient service.”
FedEx has been expanding its service capacity in the Asian region, particularly in its economy services, rolling out its FedEx International Economy and FedEx International Economy Freight offerings to 14 key markets in the region last September.
