Brazil to take centre stage, as postal leaders gather in Rio

Monday, February 4th, 2013

Top executives from around the global postal and courier industry are set to convene in Brazil later this month, as the World Mail and Express series of conferences makes a return to Rio de Janeiro.

One of the world’s biggest and most growth-hungry postal services, Brazil Post, will be hosting the event on 26-28 February, in which delegates will also get the chance to engage with some of the most forward-thinking companies in the mail and express business within the Americas region.

The conference programme is led by Wagner Pinheiro de Oliveira, the president of Brazil Post, which has recently been granted new powers by the government to grow its business outside Brazil’s borders, and enter into new business partnerships with private sector companies.

Other key speakers who will address the Americas event in 2013 include Correos Chile director-general Pablo Montané, Correios de Portugal chairman and CEO Francisco de Lacerda and Correo Uruguayo president José Luis Juarez.

Delegates will also hear from Marcela Maron, President of the UPU Consultative Committee, and Antonio Juliani, Vice President of ABRAED.

“Brazilian Post is glad to welcome back to our country such a prestigious and important event as World Mail & Express Americas in the year we commemorate the 350th anniversary of postal services in Brazil,” said Pinheiro, President of Brazil Post since 2011. “I hope that the ability to navigate challenging situations in the course of our historical development will inspire our discussions in Rio de Janeiro and help our industry to identify solutions and opportunities regarding current and future challenges.”

With Brazil Post looking for new business partnerships and an expansion overseas, its president Wagner Pinheiro de Oliveira will provide the keynote address at this year’s World Mail & Express Americas

For its 10th visit to the Americas region, World Mail and Express is launching a new feature for the first time as of today – pre-event networking.

With one of the top priorities for attendees at the popular annual conference being to meet new and existing business partners, the event organizers are this year extending the opportunities.

Registered delegates will be able to make contact with other delegates prior to this year’s event, which is being held in Rio de Janiero, Brazil, from 26-28 February.

Delegates can now begin to request meetings with fellow attendees through the event website,

The procedure is to click the “already registered” link in the top right-hand corner of the website, then enter the delegate email address and confirmation number, before clicking the “schedule appointments” link. Delegates will be able to book up to three 10-minute appointment times to take place during lunches and coffee breaks.

Attendees that have chosen not to take part in pre-event networking will not appear in the list of attendees available for those setting up meetings.

Tom Joannou, the managing director of event organisers Triangle Management Services, said: “Along with the highly informative conference programme, it’s always been clear the importance of the networking opportunities that are available through our World Mail and Express series of conferences.

“We wanted to maximise the value provided to our delegates by providing a new way for our delegates to ensure they connect with the right partners.”
