In June 2013 Deutsche Post DHL took home the e-commerce award at the World Mail Awards in Madrid. Post & Parcel spoke to Team Leader Volker Wilde, to find out more about their award-winning online market place, MeinPaket.de, and what the award meant to the company. What is MeinPaket.de?

 

MeinPaket.de is an online market place which provides its customers with both easy to use standardised products, as well as innovative and tailored solutions ranging from dialog marketing to industrial supply chains.  The online-marketplace attracts both dealers and private customers which has accelerated the DHL parcel business.  Since its launch in October 2010, MeinPaket.de has seen tremendous success- attracting more than 700,000 customers.

 

What did winning the award mean to the business?

 

Winning the award meant a lot to us. The 40-strong team of MeinPaket.de enjoyed the appreciation and acclaim, and it gave everyone in the team fresh motivation. Internally the encouragement of the award helped to promote our strategy.

 

How did you feel when you found out the company had won? 

 

We were extremely surprised and immediately jumped up onto the stage!  We were also happy about having the opportunity to shake hands with the presenter Araceli Segarra, who had been part of the rescue team during the worst disaster in the history of Mount Everest that took place in 1996 and is described in the global bestselling book by Jon Krakauer, that My boss Christian Metzner and I by chance had both read and thus knew Araceli Segarra from reading about her experiences. Being presented the award by Araceli Segarra made it all the more meaningful.

 

After winning the award how has the website developed? 

 

We have developed a fully functional MeinPaket Webshop product for business customers

where merchants can acquire their own online shop based on ePages software – including a domain. All items from the web shop can also be sold on MeinPaket.de and other marketplaces. The Webshop also includes our default secure and simple payment solution – POSTPAY. We have also developed the MeinPaket Fullfilment Service. Both of them seem to be doing well.

 

Did the award lead to any new business opportunities? 

The award literally put us in the spotlight in the DP DHL for some time, thus some doors may have opened a bit easier than before.

 

Why do you think it is important for Triangle to run these awards? 
The award are all about motivation, they inspire the team of the respective winning company and thus helps them to reach new targets.

 

Why would you recommend people to take part in the World Mail Awards?

 

Taking part in the event means that you are getting to know the top players in the mail world. This alone is reason enough to apply.
