Canada Post kicks off annual campaign for Community Foundation

Today marks the beginning of a month-long fundraising effort by Canada Post and its employees to raise funds for the Community Foundation for Children. Funds raised through an annual in-store campaign, employee events and through sales of a special semi-postal stamp allow the Foundation to deliver grants to community-based organisations focused on programs and activities for children and youth. From September 29 to October 26, customers will have the opportunity to help support employees’ efforts to deliver a brighter future for Canadian children with the purchase of the Canada Post Community Foundation stamp, available online and at all post offices across the country. All proceeds will go to funding grassroots and community-based child and youth organisations in the province in which the stamp was purchased. The stamp features an image of children in a paper hat boat, sailing towards a better future.

This year, 107 organisations from across the country will share a total of $1.36 million in funds raised in 2013. The grants will support, among others, breakfast programs, anti-bullying initiatives, camps for children living with serious illnesses, early literacy programs, health programs, recreational programs or special education programs.

“We are proud of our employees and retirees who have devoted numerous hours to raising awareness and funds,” says Deepak Chopra, President and CEO, Canada Post. “The Canada Post Community Foundation aims to help any groups that strive to improve the lives of children in communities across Canada.”

About the stamp

The semi-postal Canada Post Community Foundation stamp has a 10-cent surcharge, with funds going directly to the work of the Canada Post Community Foundation for Children. The Permanent™ stamp measures 32 mm by 32 mm, and is available in a booklet of 10 stamps. The stamp was designed by Paul Haslip of HM&E Design Communications and printed using six-colour lithography by Lowe-Martin. The Official First Day Cover is cancelled in Ottawa, Ontario.
