Nightline Depot Footprint Grows and Grows as Capacity Expands Ahead of Peak

Ireland’s largest independent delivery firm has rounded out preparations for the peak parcel season by announcing another major expansion in its depot network. The Nightline Group has revealed that a new facility in Limerick will be the largest such site in the west of the country.

It becomes the third depot which Nightline has opened during the course of this year, following the successful launch of premises in Athlone and Tralee.

Nightline’s CEO and co-founder, John Tuohy, has also warned that his company’s astonishing physical growth is not over yet.
Two more depots are due to open in the New Year and will take Nightline’s depot footprint to more than half a million square feet.

“Our expansion has been nothing short of astonishing but is wholly sustainable and testament to the volume of business which we are now handling.”

“More than a million parcels a month already pass through our depots and that is set to increase still further during the build-up to Christmas.”

“A proportion of that, of course, is down to the rapid rate at which Irish consumers have taken to online shopping.”

“That is great news for the country’s economy and means that, as we become busier, we increase the size of our operations and the number of people we employ too.”

Nightline’s newest location is an 80,000 sq ft site in Limerick and replaces three much smaller depots in the area. It brings the total number of facilities run by the company to 11 with another brace of openings scheduled for early next year.

Mr Tuohy said that every one of the depots currently in use had been granted TAPA ‘A’ status, the highest possible certification for security standards used by the international logistics industry.

Over the course of 2014, Mr Tuohy added that depot and driver staff numbers had risen to more than 800 for the first time

“We have seen a steady growth in business and we have expanded to meet the demand for our services.”

“You can get some idea of the upsurge in volumes that we are dealing with that our Limerick facility is far bigger than the national hub for one of our multi-national competitors.”

“However, this is not about one-upmanship at all but a desire to live up to the standards which we have set and which have attracted major brand clients at home and abroad.”

“The plans which we have laid down fill me with much excitement and both myself and my colleagues look forward to delivering growth and great service well into the future.”
