New set-up for Siemens Postal, Parcel & Airport Logistics

Siemens Postal, Parcel & Airport Logistics GmbH (SPPAL) has announced that it is implementing a new global setup, which will include regional companies established in Europe, Asia and the Americas. Commenting on the new setup, SPPAL CEO Michael Reichle said: “Our company is perfectly positioned to maximize customer benefit by addressing customer needs locally and carry out project management on site.”

Siemens said that the setup was a “decisive step” for SPPAL to maintain its position as a provider of technology and solutions for logistics processes and to stay “stable, flexible and sustainable in the medium-sized competitive environment”.

Apart from Germany, Siemens Postal, Parcel & Airport Logistics has its own European regional companies in the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland.

In the United Arab Emirates (UAE) the company is known under the name SD (Middle East) LLC, thanks to its long-standing joint venture with Al Moosa Group Investment LLC.

In the Asian market, SPPAL has its own companies in Singapore, India, China and Hong Kong. The Americas are covered by regional companies in the USA and Canada.

The company also has local branch offices with its own employees in Turkey, Taiwan, Malaysia and South Korea. As a fully-owned subsidiary of Siemens, SPPAL can count on the established sales channels in many other countries.

The focus of the regional companies is on sales and marketing, project management and service.

SPPAL has its own research and development centres in Germany, the USA, China, the UAE, Singapore, Portugal and Switzerland.

In addition to working with postal and parcel service providers, SPPAL’s main customers include large international airports and airlines.

On the parcels side of the business, Siemens has won an order from Singapore Post to equip a new logistics hub with an integrated parcel sorting system. And on the aviation side, the company’s current projects include the construction of a new baggage handling system for Southwest Airlines at Los Angeles International Airport and expanding the Cargo Mega Terminal at Dubai International Airport for Emirates airlines.
