FedEx breaks ground on new Michigan facility

FedEx held a ground-breaking ceremony yesterday (23 July) for its new distribution centre in Oak Park City, Michigan. City officials attending the ceremony said that the $30 million development project, which is scheduled to start operating in August 2016, will initially create around 250 new jobs. However, they added that the number of employees at the facility could go up to 400 within the first five years of operation.

Local sources report that many of the staff for the initial start-up will be relocating from FedEx’s existing distribution centres in Livonia, Pontiac and Ann Arbor.

The site for the new 300,000 square foot distribution centre is located on Greenfield Road north of 8 Mile.
