Swiss Post responds to e-commerce growth

Swiss Post has announced that it is responding to the needs of the growing e-commerce sector with “innovations to make shopping online and receiving parcels simpler” – which will include testing a Sunday parcel delivery service in some cities. An important component of the new services, said Swiss Post, is a single login which customers can use to make purchases at a variety of online shops. Essentially, customers only have to enter their personal data (with delivery address etc.) once with Swiss Post. They can then use this user profile (with the same user name and password) to shop online across a range of portals.

In a statement issued today (30 September), the company added: “In the course of 2016 Swiss Post will
also launch individual management of parcels and registered letters. As soon as a consignment is on its
way, the customer can use a consignment cockpit on the Swiss Post website to select whether the
consignment should be delivered to a home address or to an alternative address. In addition, customers
will in future be able to set their personal delivery preferences in this cockpit: they can determine where
and when their parcels and registered letters are delivered.”

Swiss Post is also offering a wider choice of delivery options in order to meet the news of online shoppers. This includes services at off-peak times in the evening and on Saturday. Furthermore, Swiss Post will this month (October) start testing a parcels delivery service in the cities of Zurich, Geneva, Lausanne and Basel.

The company also reported that its network of My Post 24 terminals will be expanded. Since June, SwissPost has been installing terminals at SBB train stations.

“Using these measures,” added the statememt, “Swiss Post wants to help develop the e-commerce market with the goal of making e-commerce simpler and more individual for online retailers and private customers alike.”
