Tighter security checks for Chinese parcels

Tighter security checks for Chinese parcels

China’s State Post Bureau has ordered mail carriers and delivery companies to conduct tighter checks on parcels, following the fatal bombings last week. The new measures, according to local sources, include additional checks for explosives, dangerous chemicals, weapons, gunpowder and poisons. They were published on the State Post Bureau’s website on Saturday (3 October).

There were 18 explosions in the Guangix on Wednesday and Thursday, which the authorities have said were the work of one man, Wei Yinyong, who was reported to have been killed in one of the blasts.  Ten people were killed and more than 50 injured in the explosions.

China is, of course, in the midst of an e-commerce boom which is underpinned by the parcel delivery business.
