Hermes ramping up capacity in Germany in preparation for holiday season

Hermes has reported that it is ramping up its parcel-handling capacity across Germany in preparation for the holiday season. In a statement issued today (27 October), Hermes said that it expects the upcoming holiday season to generate about 36 million shipments in Germany – a 15% increase on 2014 (which was itself a record year).

In order to cope with the surge in demand, Hermes and its national affiliates will be employing about 5,400 additional workers, and there will be about 3,300 additional delivery vehicles in operation.

Dirk Rahn, Director Operations of the Hermes Logistik Gruppe Germany ( HLGD ), said that Hermes was confident that its parcel centres can cope with the extra volume. Indeed, added Rahn, they had demonstrated their capacity for handling sudden peaks this summer, during the German postal strike.
