Australia Post decides to keep existing parcel holding arrangements

Australia Post has announced that – “after listening to customer feedback” – it has decided to keep its existing arrangements for holding parcels. Consequently, the postal operator will continue to hold parcels for up to 10 days free of charge, before returning them to the sender.

As previously reported by Post&Parcel, Australia Post had put forward an idea of holding parcels for up to 30 days – but charging a fee for doing so.

The proposal did not go down well with the Australian media or – more importantly – the Australian public. They had no objection to Australia Post holding the parcels for longer, but they did baulk at the proposed fee. An online petition was launched and retailers were vocal in their opposition.

In a statement issued yesterday, Australia Post said: ” From the outset, we advised that if customers didn’t want us to make the changes we wouldn’t proceed.

“Our customers are at the core of what do, and we will continue to explore a range of new initiatives to provide them with greater choice and convenience.”
