Eddie Stobart expands online fulfilment capacity

Eddie Stobart has announced the arrival of a fleet of 50 new specialist box trailers to support its growing online fulfilment business. In a statement issued on Monday (22 August), the company said that the new trailer fleet, from manufacturer SDC, will be set to work “immediately”, delivering time-critical express trunking between sorting centres and ‘final mile’ depots.

“This is a significant investment and demonstrates our commitment to this fast-growing sector,” said Neil Rowbotham, online fulfilment sector director at Eddie Stobart.

“The new trailers, in addition to our high-spec tautliners, will bring greater efficiencies and flexibility to our business by facilitating the fast and secure movement of loose parcels typical of online fulfilment, but with the capacity to accommodate conventional wheeled cages as well.  This gives us maximum flexibility to meet the needs of the disparate online market – protecting our competitive one way pricing structure without compromising our broader network.”
