India Post and India Railways yet to agree on parcel delivery logistics

India Post and India Railways are continuing discussions on plans to use the rail network to boost parcel deliveries, but local sources report that they have been unable to agree on the logistical details. Reports in the local media have today (16 September) quoted a “senior government official” as saying: “While Indian Railways is offering to start dedicated trains to ferry parcels, the Department of Posts (DoP) wants only a coach in passenger trains.”

India Post already has tie-up with the railways for transporting parcels, but the intention now is to increase the capacity with both more trains and (if India Post’s plan gets the nod) dedicated parcel trains.
