FedEx joins Americans For Modern Transportation coalition

FedEx has announced that it has joined the newly-launched Americans For Modern Transportation (AMT) coalition as a founding member. In a statement issued yesterday (11 January), FedEx said: “The coalition is being formed at a pivotal time as we lay the groundwork for safe, efficient and sustainable future for our nation’s transportation system, which is at the core of FedEx daily operations.

“Updating the country’s transportation network will help millions of U.S. businesses connect with customers and suppliers around the world and promote U.S. economic growth going forward.”

Also yesterday, President-elect Trump’s nominee as Secretary for Transportation, Elaine Chao, attended her nomination hearing with the US Senate’s Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation.

In her statement to the committee, Chao spoke of the need to ““unleash the potential for private investment in our nation’s infrastructure”.

Chao also emphasised why she believed this investment was so important: “Our country’s transportation infrastructure is the underpinning of our country’s world-class economy. It is a key factor in productivity growth, providing millions of Americans with a standard of living that is the envy of the world.

“These gains are being jeopardized by aging infrastructure, growing congestion, increased fatalities on our highways, and a failure to keep pace with emerging technologies.”
