European Parliament endorses Mariya Gabriel as Digital Economy Commissioner
The European Parliament has endorsed the appointment of Mariya Gabriel as European Commissioner for the Digital Economy and Society. Gabriel was backed by a vote of 517 to 77, with 89 abstentions.
In her new role, Gabriel will contribute to delivering a Digital Single Market, by “helping to lay the groundwork for Europe’s digital future with EU-wide telecommunications networks, digital services that cross borders and a wave of innovative European start-ups”.
A Bulgarian national, Gabriel has been a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) since 2009.
