Rhenus sets up Australian division
The Rhenus group has acquired the Australian logistics company, O’Brien Customs and Forwarding. Established in 1996 and headquartered in Melbourne, O’Brien handles air and sea freight consignments and has a national distribution network, as well as providing core customs and warehouse services.
As part of the acquisition, Rhenus is planning to utilise its network and service offering to further expand the scope of O’Brien’s current operations. This includes a focus on domestic traffic, support for import and export, buyers’ consolidation as well as a fully integrated warehouse and logistics solution.
Jan Harnisch, COO of ocean freight for Rhenus Asia, commented: “The takeover of O’Brien and the founding of the national company which will be known as Rhenus Logistics Australia allows us to roll out our service across the whole of Australia.”
Rhenus is planning to open a number of new business sites across the Asia Pacific region this year, including centres in China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines.
