Australian Centre for Robotic Vision wins Amazon Robotics Challenge

A team from the Australian Centre for Robotic Vision (ACRV) has won the Grand Championship at this year’s Amazon Robotics Challenge. The Challenge tested the robots on their ability both to pick and stow objects. ACRV came top overall, while Nanyang Technological University won the Pick Task and MIT Princeton took first place in the Stow Task.

“This year, we made some changes to the Challenge to make it even more difficult and to encourage broader participation from multiple robotics fields – and the response was exciting,” said Joey Durham, Contest Chairperson and Manager of Research and Advanced Development for Amazon Robotics.

“The versatility of recognition capabilities in an unstructured environment and the dexterity of grasping mechanisms was truly impressive.”

The Amazon Robotics Challenge was held last week during RoboCup in Nagoya, Japan.
