Mercedes-Benz introducing in-vehicle 3 word address navigation

Mercedes-Benz plans to be the first automotive manufacture to launch in-vehicle 3 word address navigation through a partnership with what3words. The what3words global addressing system divides up the world into 3m x 3m squares, each with its own unique 3 word address.

Mercedes-Benz has built what3words into the next generation infotainment system it will be launching next year.

“Our approach is entirely focused on giving our customers the best, the easiest and the most comfortable experience,” said Sajjad Khan, vice president of Digital Vehicle and Mobility, Daimler AG. “3 word addresses are very simple to use, meaning drivers can give their car any precise destination, and know they’re navigating to the correct location, every time.”

Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz has also announced this week that it will offer either hybrid or fully electric versions of its vehicles by 2022. Fellow German automaking giant Volkswagen is taking a similar path, but it has set a deadline of 2030.
