Singapore Post gets nod for joint venture

Singapore Post Pte Ltd has been permitted by the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) to set up a joint venture subsidiary in India along with Consignia (Royal Mail) and the Netherlands-based TPG Group. According to the plans sanctioned by the FIPB, Singapore Post will form a 50:50 JV in India with Netherlands-based G3 Worldwide Mail. G3 Worldwide is a joint venture between three partners, the TPG Group, Consignia (Royal Mail) and Singapore Post.

Post licence must stick to the letter of the law

Bit of a hiccup in the onward march of competition in the postal industry. Postcomm, the independent regulator, has discovered that the legislation establishing a framework for competition requires companies to be licensed for collecting outbound international mail, but not for carrying it.

As a result, a short-term licence is being hurriedly issued to G3 Worldwide Mail, a TNT Post Group subsidiary, which runs an international mail service that no one previously thought needed to be licensed
