TRIANGLE RESEARCH: A FIRST COMPREHENSIVE POST-PANDEMIC ANALYSIS OF THE UK PARCEL DELIVERY SECTOR
Triangle Management Services has published its UK Express Parcel Carriers Digest 2023, which measures the UK parcel carrier market and investigates the main national carriers that shape the industry.
The digest breaks down the estimated 4.3 billion items that were handled in 2021-22 by the top 15 UK express parcel carriers, which generated £16.7 billion in revenues and provide the shares held by each of the carriers.
It also provides overall B2B/B2C/C2X splits once the pandemic restrictions were lifted but as the cost-of-living crisis started to emerge. Volumes are also segmented by the most common parcel sizes, weight-bands and domestic and international traffic.
Results confirm that next day (64% of all volume) is by far the preferred delivery service, followed by deferred delivery (22%).
The digest also offers a post-pandemic status of the industry taking into account the slowdown of the B2C boom (still above pre-pandemic levels) and other factors that affected the industry such as the driver shortage, rise of fuel prices and shortages in the supply chain.
A brief view of the e-commerce market is covered and how delivery preferences have shifted with the growth in the adoption of out-of-home solutions despite the still preferred method of home delivery (78% of all parcels delivered).
Each carrier profile includes financial performance (covering the last two years), key markets and operations, investment in fleet and infrastructure, latest developments and its domestic and international service portfolios.
So, whether you want to use it as a competitive analysis tool, a market sizing exercise, a strategical support document, this digest may be just what you need.
