UPS Supply Chain Solutions have announced a new service that helps companies properly manage the disposition of used and obsolete electronic goods and components.

Through its new Asset Recovery and Recycling Management service, UPS Supply Chain Solutions oversees the final disposition of these electronics through repair, recycling or disposal in an environmentally safe manner, all while controlling logistics-related activities. The new service tackles the growing problem of how to manage used and obsolete electronic goods, such as computers, cell phones, printers as well as their electronic components.

Ministers accused of ‘cavalier’ stance on UK Post Offices

The Government’s “cavalier” stance on the Post Office closure programme is threatening the future of Europe’s largest retail network, Tories warned.

Shadow industry secretary Stephen O’Brien said the Government’s failure to recognise and promote the network’s strategic community value was an “indictment” of ministers’ record.

They had exhibited “a genuine lack of concern over the relentless Post Office closure programme being inflicted on almost every rural, suburban and inner city community,” he protested.

Mozambique Post Office urged to be more flexible

Mozambique’s Minister of Transport and Communications, Tomas Salomao, has recognised that mismanagement by the former board of directors, and the absence of new information technologies, are at the root of the financial crisis currently faced by the Mozambican Post Office. Speaking at the closing session of a meeting of the Post Office National Council, Salomao said the company should accompany technological changes and make use of the fact that it still has offices throughout the country.

Postcomm lists five criteria for UK competition test

Postcomm has set out five criteria that it proposes to use to measure the effectiveness of competition in mail services. As the criteria are met, Postcomm will look at whether it can reduce its regulation of the market in those areas.

The criteria are Barriers to entry, The scale and nature of competition, Behaviour of Royal Mail, Customer awareness and behaviour and Effectiveness of competition.
