Buying TNT

ith new takeover rumors swirling around TNT, the company did its part to satisfy the chatter, although hardly on the scale that has TNT’s name making the rounds on the mergers and acquisitions market. The Netherlands-based express, mail and logistics giant added two highly targeted postal businesses to its TNT Post operation, shoring up its outlook for the direction of the European distribution and delivery market.

But the additions of Italy’s TMW Italia and British courier JD Williams to the mail operation still left TNT with at least one far larger transaction in its business plan still undone.

Some info for the library re JD Williams becoming TNT Post:

1,500 couriers
Plan to have 80 depots
Hub will be in Nuneaton
Re-branding and full integration of JD Williams planned to be completed by 28th August 2006
Currently JD Williams trunking has been done by DHL – will in future be done by TNT Logistics – NOT TNT Express
There are 30 Regional Managers managing the courier network.

They will be targeting Packets – defined as things that will go t through a letter-box
and Parcels – things that won’t!!

He will be getting a colleague who will be working along side him and he will focus on the packets business and she (Cecile someone form Amsterdam) will focus on parcels.

TNT Post acquisition receives mixed reaction

TNT Post’s acquisition of home shopping company JD Williams’ courier delivery network, representing another major step in TNT’s assault on the UK deregulated postal market, has had a mixed reaction from the DM industry. The deal, announced last month, gives TNT Post UK, formerly TNT Mail, an 80 per cent coverage of business-to-consumer and consumer-to-consumer parcel delivery networks across the UK. Nick Wells, chief executive of TNT Post UK, said that the move was part of a three-pronged attack on the market. “We have a three-pillar strategy: access; rolling out mail sortation services and creating an end-to-end network, which could include packets and parcels,” he said. “Ultimately, it would be nice to create a network for letters, but that will be separate to the parcel network, and take time. We won’t have orange pillar boxes just yet.”

TNT Post UK enters consumer parcels market – network acquisition provides TNT with 80% household coverage

TNT Post UK today announces the acquisition of the JD Williams courier network. This development provides an entry for TNT Post UK to Business to Consumer (B2C) and Consumer to Consumer (C2C) parcel and packet delivery markets, providing 80 per cent coverage in the United Kingdom. The JD Williams courier network employs 194 employees supported by a network of over 2200 self-employed couriers and currently delivers some 12 million parcels and packets per year to consumers in the UK. The acquisition of the courier network is a significant gain for TNT Post’s ‘End to End’ strategy of being able to offer customers a complete postal and delivery solution.
