FedEx Express to build new hub in Singapore

FedEx Express is to build a regional hub within the Air Cargo Express (ACE) Hub at Singapore Changi Airport. The new facility – aimed at integrating delivery, pick-up and air operations under one roof – will “enhance FedEx customers’ access to global markets and support Singapore’s aim to be a leading air cargo hub in the region,” the company said.

Earmarked for completion in the second half of 2012, the hub will measure 282,700-square-feet – the second largest operation facility in the Asia Pacific region (after the Asia Pacific hub located in Guangzhou, southern China).

“The GDP of the ASEAN-5 economies is projected to expand by 5.5% and 5.75% in 2011 and 2012 respectively. FedEx has already established a significant presence in Southeast Asia. With this new regional hub in Singapore, FedEx will further enhance our ability to offer customers unparalleled connectivity and enhanced services,” said David L. Cunningham Jr., president, Asia Pacific, FedEx Express.

The FedEx Singapore Regional Hub is strategically located within Changi Airport’s free trade zone and beside the Airport Logistics Park of Singapore.

It will boast a five-belt sort system with capacity to sort up to 9,000 packages per hour and house over 250 delivery vans.

It will also include airside infrastructure such as two new aircraft parking bays as well as a special on-site facilitation by the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority and Singapore Customs for efficient cargo clearance.

The facility will complement the operations at FedEx Asia Pacific hub, which remains the center point of the FedEx AsiaOne network connecting the region.
