Amazon UK hiring 19,000 for Christmas period
Amazon UK will be hiring 19,000 people in seasonal roles within its fulfilment and customer service centres over the Christmas period. In a statement issued on Thursday (8 October), Amazon said that it has created 700 permanent roles in its UK fulfilment centres so far this year and now employs more than 7,800 people in this facilities. This has risen from more than 4,000 people at the beginning of 2011.
“We have created thousands of permanent roles with competitive wages and great benefits in our fulfilment centres in the last five years and everyone who took up those roles joined us, initially, on a temporary basis,” said John Tagawa, Amazon’s Vice President of UK Operations. “As we continue to expand our operations in the UK, we are confident that hundreds of people who join us this Christmas in a seasonal role will have the opportunity to stay on with us on a permanent basis.”
Amazon has eight fulfilment centres across the UK in Doncaster, Dunfermline, Gourock, Hemel Hempstead, Milton Keynes, Peterborough, Rugeley and Swansea Bay. Amazon is also opening a new fulfilment centre in Dunstable creating a further 500 permanent jobs with a second fulfilment centre in Doncaster also opening next month, creating more than 300 new permanent jobs over the next three years.
