IKEA Australia launches home delivery service

IKEA Australia has launched a home delivery and click & collect service in Canberra. The launch in the Australia Capital Territory (ACT) follows on from the introduction of a click&collect service in Tasmania earlier this month.

The cost for the Canberra home delivery service depends on the customer’s post code and the size of the item being delivered. Prices start at $59 and go up to $149 for delivering whole kitchens.

Orders placed before 8pm can be delivered next day and customers can choose from two time windows: 8am-3pm and 1pm-8pm.

IKEA plans to expand the delivery service to towns surrounding the ACT region as the roll-out develops – and then move onto other cities across Australia.

IKEA Australia country manager David Hood was quoted as saying: “Next August we will have a brand new national distribution centre opening in northwest Sydney, which is a huge part of the creating the preconditions allowing us to take further steps.

“If we can do this in Canberra then we’ll start to look in January next year at which other markets and stores we want to progressively roll this out.”
