DHL launches time definite delivery (TDD) service to China

DHL, the world’s leading express and logistics company, has launched its Time Definite Delivery (TDD) product offering to the Chinese city of Shanghai.

DHL’s Time Definite Delivery products comprises StartDay and MidDay Express which offer customers the latest possible collection times for early next-day deliveries. DHL StartDay Express offers next day door-to-door delivery by 9.00am. MidDay Express offers next day door-to-door delivery by 12 noon.

“The extension of our TDD product to Shanghai reflects the growing commercial importance of China in our regional network,” said John Pearson, Commercial Director, DHL Express – Asia Pacific “The relatively short time it took us to bring the product to market reflects our continual commitment to anticipate and respond to the evolving needs of our customers.”

Customers can track the status of the shipment via the DHL website and are also notified pro-actively via email or facsimile when the delivery has been made. In addition, if the delivery is not made by the stated time, the customer will be notified and a report stating the reason for the delay will be communicated. Should the cause of the delay lie with DHL, the total transportation charges will be refunded (in accordance with DHL’s Money-Back Guarantee Terms and Conditions).

Shanghai is the latest Asian destination to be added to DHL’s Time Definite Delivery offering. In July 2003, DHL extended its Time Definite Delivery products to five additional Asian cities – Tokyo and Osaka, Bangkok, Manila and Kuala Lumpur. DHL’s Time Definite Delivery service is already available in Europe, Middle East and Africa, as well as in Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Australia and New Zealand.

“The ability to continually extend the TDD offering to additional Asian destinations is a direct result of our investment in the development of DHL’s dedicated Asia Pacific air network,” said Mr Pearson.

DHL’s regional air network currently consists of 34 dedicated cargo services daily, in addition to over 800 commercial flights per day. This allows capital cities and other major business centers to be interconnected through DHL’s regional hubs and gateways, providing DHL’s customers with overnight services across Asia and the Pacific.
