DHL plans restructuring measures in France

DHL, the transport and logistics subsidiary of German postal service Deutsche Post, is planning extensive restructuring measures in France. The company has signed an agreement with trade unions relating to its plans, which are expected to affect up to 10 percent of its total 12,000 staff in France. The aim of the plan is to improve the company’s operating margins and the quality of its service.

The plan will be implemented over a period of several months, possibly several years. The figures that have been given are said to include both redundancies and transfers; no details have been given of the sites that will be affected or the exact number of jobs that are to be lost. The decision to implement these restructuring measures forms part of the company’s rationalisation plan, which was commenced at the end of 2002.
