DHL and Lufthansa Cargo launch 5 new international routes

DHL and Lufthansa Cargo have begun operations on five new international routes; and DHL has increased capacity on its Hong Kong-Taipei service.

The new international routes, operated by Lufthansa Cargo MD11 freighters, will offer more intercontinental flights between Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the US, with faster transit times.

Specific route details are:

East Midlands – Cincinnati – East Midlands

Brussels – New York (JFK) – Brussels

Cologne – Bahrain – Singapore – Delhi – Cologne

East Midlands – Cologne – Hong Kong – Sharjah – Cologne – Bergamo – East Midlands

Cologne – East Midlands – New York (JFK) – Cologne (introduced July 2003)

In related news, DHL has more than doubled the payload capacity of its service between Hong Kong and Taipei to meet increased demand. According to IATA, freight traffic between Asia and Europe was forecast to grow at an average of 6.4% annually between last year and 2007, compared with a global average of 4.3%.

DHL Worldwide Express will offer service five times a week through an Airbus SAS A300 freighter run by Air Hong Kong, a cargo carrier it jointly owns with Cathay Pacific Airways.
