Wincanton secures deals with Co-op and Aggregate Industries

British logistics firm Wincanton has won a new, five-year deal with Aggregate Industries (AI) for the distribution of concrete products from the majority of its UK manufacturing sites.

Aggregate Industries is the UK brand of the global construction materials and solutions company, LafargeHolcim.

Wincanton has also been appointed by UK food retail business The Co-op to launch and run their newest regional distribution centre in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire.

The initial three-year contract will see Wincanton manage all warehouse and store delivery operations from the facility to new and existing stores in the surrounding area, supporting The Co-operative Group’s continued growth.

Speaking about the deal with AI, Shaun Elliott, Head of Logistics, Concrete Products at Aggregate Industries said: “We have witnessed Wincanton’s ability to deliver on major national contracts at our Cauldon bulk operation. We have also seen how their commitment to continuous improvement can generate material benefits across the business.  We are looking forward to the Wincanton team joining our concrete products operation.”

Commenting on the contract with Co-op, Ian Keilty, Managing Director, Retail & Consumer at Wincanton, said: “We’re delighted to be working with The Co-operative Group to create a new Regional Distribution Centre.

“It will help The Co-op manage increasing demand and support their growth plans, while creating around 500 jobs for people in the surrounding area.

“We have drawn on our shared experience of working together for 25 years, creating a team from both businesses in order to develop a new distribution centre from inception to go-live in under six months – well done and thank you to all involved!”
