Postcomm set to probe UK Royal Mail price plan

Postcomm is to finally launch a consultation on Royal Mail’s controversial size-based pricing scheme, nearly two years after the postal operator revealed its plans.

But even if the proposals are approved, the scheme will not be introduced until September 2005 at the earliest. Postcomm admits “it is more likely size-based pricing will not be introduced before April 2006”.

The postal regulator will conduct two consultations. The first will assess the cost justification; the second summarise the first and set out Postcomm’s proposed decision.

WWAV Rapp Collins chairman and chief executive Chris Gordon says: “This is not something we should all simply leave to the DMA (UK). We all need to take the time to respond to the consultation to demonstrate the level of opposition.”
