Hundreds of jobs threatened at DHL HQ

International express courier DHL plans a major reorganisation that could threaten nearly half its 950-strong workforce at its global headquarters in Brussels, the Belgian press said Tuesday.

The German-owned company is planning to sack 173 people at its complex at the Belgian capital’s Zavantem airport, and move another 177 posts to its European headquarters at Bonn, the Belga news agency said.

Another 98 posts could be moved elsewhere in the world, it said.

The head of DHL in Belgium and Luxembourg, Frank Beuselinck, told AFP that it was premature to talk of job losses.

The company, an affiliate of Deutsche Post, launched a review of its operations last month covering a shake-up of its complexes in Brussels and Bonn, he noted.

“We’re at the start of the consultation process. It’s much too early to talk about what will happen, to talk about numbers of job losses or even of redundancies at all,” Beuselinck said.
