Deutsche Post acquires Wegener share in Interlanden
Deutsche Post AG has acquired the remaining thirty percent share in Interlanden from Koninklijke Wegener NV. This transaction ties in with the expectations that were expressed when Wegener sold seventy percent of Interlanden to Deutsche Post in July 2002.
Interlanden is one of the most important players in the field of distributing unaddressed advertising materials in the Netherlands. Eachweek, the deliverers of Interlanden deliver approximately nine million free local papers and 70 million leaflets. Interlanden is located in Apeldoorn and employs 500 people. Approximately 24,000 deliverers are active for this company.
Interlanden was founded in 1969 as a distributor of free door-to-door papers (weeklies). The company is currently still active in the distribution of local papers, but has also added the distribution of leaflets to its service. Deutsche Post and Wegener will continue to work together as partners in Selekt Mail Nederland, their Joint-Venture for addressed mail delivery in the Netherlands.
The Dutch post market – like that in the rest of Europe – is undergoing further deregulation providing alternative high-quality distribution systems for both addressed and unaddressed mail to the Dutch business sector. Deutsche Post World Net offers a complete portfolio of postal services in the Dutch market by Selekt Mail Nederland (addressed mail) and the Deutsche Post subsidiaries, Selektvracht (B2C parcels), Deutsche Post Global Mail (international mail) and Interlanden (unaddressed Direct Mail).
