Italy postal service launches pensioners debit card

Italian Postal Service will launch by the end of June 2004 a pensioners’ debit card, on which the pensions can be debited directly, without having to queue up at post offices, Italy’s Postal Service CEO, Massimo Sarmi, said on April 23, 2004.

The service is aimed at those pensioners who do not own a bank account. The card can be used to make purchases in shops and to withdraw cash.

The Postal Service will also launch in the near future a card to access the national health system services, Sarmi added.

Italy’s Postal Service plans to list on the Stock Exchange by the end of 2004.
