
USPS’s Mail Volume Up, Revenue Up, Expenses Down
According to the United States Postal Service’s year-to-date (YTD) fiscal data (Oct. 1, 2003, through Mar. 31, 2004), YTD revenue of $35.5 billion was 1.4% over budget, and expenses of $32.9 billion were 1.7% under budget plan.
The YTD net income of $2.5 billion was $1.0 billion more than budget.
Meanwhile, total mail volume was up 1.1% in the first six months of fiscal 2004. For the YTD, First-Class volume was down 0.8%, Standard Mail was up 3.6%, Package Services was up 1.2%, Priority Mail was down 1.5%, Express Mail fell 4.0%, Periodicals was down 3.2%, and International was up 7.5%.
