Chilean express delivery market to grow 14 percent in 2004

The Chilean express delivery market is expected to grow by 14 percent in terms of volume in 2004 helped by the US and Chilean economic recoveries and the recently signed free trade deals, according to forecast by Juan Carlos Aravena, sales director of UPS Chile, the Chilean subsidiary of UPS, the US express delivery company. Mr. Aravena estimates the domestic express delivery market at about USD50mil (between 5,000 and 6,000 parcels per day). The global express delivery market is growing at annual rates of between 30percent and 35percent. Mr. Aravena has also said that there were 50 companies operating in the domestic express delivery market five years ago while there are currently only 30 players in the sector. The four leading players, FedEx, TNT, DHL and UPS, have a combined share of 95percent of the market, in both volume and sales terms.
