Italy Elag and Russian Posts Sign 30 Mln Euro Contract

Italian system integrator Elsag, a subsidiary of Italian state-controlled defence group Finmeccanica, has won a 30 mln euro ($36. 5 mln) contract from the Russian Posts, it was reported on June 28, 2004.

Under the contract, Elsag will develop equipment and systems for an automatic mail processing centre in Moscow for high-speed culling, cancelling, coding and sorting of the mail.

Elsag will also provide consulting and maintainance services for the automatic mail processing equipment.

The new mail processing centre is expected to have a daily capacity of three million letters and parcels and will service the whole region of Moscow, which has some 40 million citizens.

The mail processing centre will be set up within 20 months after the signing of the contract, which is expected in August 2004. (ANSA).
