Nipost Assures of Better Service By 2006

Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has assured Nigerians of a revamped service delivery within the next two years.

NIPOST made the commitment in its service delivery charter recently presented to the SERVICOM office in Abuja, in line with a federal government directive to all government establishments.

A statement from the SERVICOM office, said NIPOST promised to achieve safe and speedy delivery of mails through a constant review of existing national mail routes.

It also promised to provide speedy services through provision of modern security gadgets and automation of its mail processing activities.

NIPOST promised that by 2006, it would be in a position to achieve a 90 per cent success rate in respect of targets of 72 hours mail delivery nationwide, 48 hours inter-state and 24 hours intra-state.

Besides, NIPOST gave an assurance that mails sent through its EMS/Speed Post delivery system would get to their destinations across the country within 48 hours and 12 hours within the cities.

The postal service assured all that it would attain 95 per cent success on its EMS/Speed Post delivery performance by 2006, the SERVICOM statement said.

Commenting on NIPOST’s published Commitments, coordinator of SERVICOM, Mr. Ad’Obe Obe, said the charter reinforced the rationale behind the SERVICOM project in the first instance.

“The NIPOST charter means that every Nigerian can now post letters with the full confidence that the letters will get to their destinations on time.

It also means that postage stamps now offer real value for money,” the statement quoted Mr. Obe as saying.

Beside NIPOST said in its service charter that it would ensure the cashment of all financial or postal money orders presented at the counters after three working days.

Similarly, all electronic money transfers would attract instant cashment on presentation of relevant information.

All application for post office boxes and private mail bags will be processed within three working days to achieve a 90 per cent success level by 2006, the charter said.

With regard to the nation’s courier business, NIPOST promised to respond professionally and promised to all applications for registration or licence renewal for courier companies.

The postal service also stressed that it would work hard to sanitize the courier industry to ensure rapid growth, standardization and industrial harmony, NIPOST classified its services into three major categories – mail services, financial services and auxiliary services.

As a national carrier of all classes of mail items for delivery within and outside Nigeria, NIPOST processes, moves and delivers continental mails, business mails and provided counter retail services.
