TNT to open doors of state-of-the-art road hub in Abu Dhabi
TNT, the leading business-to-business express carrier, is to invest three million Dirhams in a state-of-the-art road hub at the airport here in the UAE capital.
The clearance facility will open its doors on September 4, 2004, Mark Pell, TNT managing director Gulf and Saudi Arabia, announced.
Pell says the main reason for creating the new road hub is the ‘phenomenal success’ of TNT’s road network development programme due to Customer demand.
Steve Barrett, TNT’s national operations manager – Gulf, says the new facility at Abu Dhabi Airport will enable the Dutch-owned integrator to clear all products coming into the capital by road or air ‘immediately.’
‘It is in line with our goal to run the trucking network to and from each GCC country six days a week before the end of this year. The Abu Dhabi facility also improves our transit time in the UAE.’
TNT’s rapidly-expanding road network in the Gulf has been a runaway success in the industry. Pan-Middle East expansion is on the drawing board as is a route to Europe via Turkey.
The strength of the road network resulted in major depot facilities opening in Bahrain in February and Kuwait last week.
‘Abu Dhabi is a vital piece of the jigsaw. It’s a window on so many areas inside and outside the Emirates,’ adds Barrett.
