Austria postal service to propose Deutsche Post partnership

Austria’s postal service will propose setting up a strategic partnership with Deutsche Post World Net AG, allowing the German company to get a foothold on the Austrian market after its attempt to buy a 25 pct stake in its counterpart failed, Die Welt newspaper reported.

In an article to appear in tomorrow’s edition, the paper said Oesterreichische Post chief Anton Weis will propose a partnership with Deutsche Post, and specifically its express courier unit DHL.

Oesterreichische Post’s 100 pct owner, Austrian state holding company OeIAG,

will decide on possible cooperation on Sept 17, the newspaper said.

Last week, political hurdles foiled Deutsche Post’s attempt to acquire a 25

pct stake in Oesterreichische Post.

An Austrian deal is central to Deutsche Post’s plans to expand its

pan-European mail network.
