Deutsche Post says it is too early to assess possible Austria Post partnership

Deutsche Post World Net AG said it is too early to assess whether it may see a possible strategic partnership with Austria’s postal service, in response to a report in Die Welt newspaper.

‘One problem is that there is a plethora of people involved, who all have or want to have a say in this to some degree,’ a spokesman for Deutsche Post said.

Die Welt said today that Oesterreichische Post chief Anton Weis will propose a partnership with Deutsche Post, and specifically its express courier unit DHL, to the supervisory board today.

‘We have to wait and see how Austrian legal conditions change in regards to possible partial privatisation of Oesterreichische Post. It is much too early to say what might happen,’ the spokesman said.

Last week, political hurdles foiled Deutsche Post’s attempt to acquire a 25 pct stake in Oesterreichische Post.
