FedEx selects Opsware to automate global data center operations

Opsware Inc, the leading provider of IT automation and utility computing software, have announced that FedEx Corporate Services, Inc., a subsidiary of FedEx Corp, the premier provider of shipping and information services, has selected the Opsware System.

One of the key strategic elements for IT in 2004 is speed to market. As part of this strategy, FedEx selected the Opsware System to help the company optimize IT resource allocation to meet key business objectives. FedEx will use the Opsware System to establish a consistent baseline across their server and application infrastructure, an important foundation for realizing speed and future utility computing initiatives.

“IT automation is crucial for an agile organization like ours that has to respond quickly to customer demands and a dynamic business environment,” said Robert Carter, executive vice president and CIO of FedEx Corp. “The Opsware System is an IT automation solution that is proven to work in large, distributed environments and can integrate with our existing infrastructure.”

“FedEx continues to adopt new technologies that enable the company to attain key business objectives,” said Marc Andreessen, Chairman of Opsware Inc. “IT innovation is a great FedEx hallmark, and by implementing the Opsware System, FedEx will leverage their IT resources more efficiently and cost-effectively, and be able to respond faster to customer and market demands.”

When deployed, the Opsware System will provide FedEx with an automated process for initial server builds, as well as an automated process for recovering servers, replacing many other manual tasks.
