DHL Zimbabwe receives award
The world’s leading express, air and ocean freight company DHL has nominated its Zimbabwean network, Country of the Year for 2004, ranking it the best of its offices in southern Africa.
The company rates Zimbabwe as the fourth best emerging market country in the world.
The award involves all 47 countries in Africa in which DHL operates.
DHL operations manager Mr Michael Druce based in Johannesburg, South Africa congratulated the DHL staff in Zimbabwe for the “tremendous result”.
“It is truly remarkable when one considers the environment in which they operate,” Mr Druce said.
The regional manager of the company is Jeff Phiri who oversees the services’ quality index and benchmarks for the company’s operations in Angola, Botswana, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi against 13 established standards.
Area Services manager, Mr Ishmael Muchemeyi is responsible for ensuring the quality index is achieved throughout the region.
“We decide the vision for the region and currently it is zero tolerance for mistakes, for late deliveries, for everything.
“We can not criticise others if our own house is not in order so we make sure that no mistake escapes here in Zimbabwe,” Mr Phiri said.
“We are very excited and feel rewarded for our efforts and are proud of our achievements on behalf of the entire team,” Mr Muchemeyi said.
DHL in Zimbabwe has three categories of transit times.
The first one is within Africa that is regarded as domestic with the second being the United States, which is the big strategic market.
The European Union (EU) is the third market and is set to grow with the recent addition of 10 more countries.
“Our success depends on how soon we transmit checkpoint status.
“Shipment information is as important as the shipment itself and this award symbolises our ability to harness information technology for the best of the customer,” said Mr Muchemeyi.
The award follows on from 2000 when Zimbabwe was named the most improved country in emerging markets.
“We are now piloting programmes where customers will see direct benefits.
“It is not easy to demand excellence but we did it and our people have earned their stars,” Mr Muchemeyi said.
