Celebrating famous Ukrainian families

Ukraine Post (Ukrposhta),  has issued a set of special stamps from the series “famous families of the Ukraine” depicting the Galagans – a noble family from the Right-Bank and Left-Bank of Ukraine in the 17th-20th centuries.

The most famous member of this family was Hryhoriy Galagan – a great landowner in Poltava and Chernihiv region who was a public figure and philanthropist. He was a a renowned Ukrainophile and financially supported Ukrainian artists and writers.

G. Galagan was the founder of the College of Pavel Halagan, one of the prestigious educational institutions of Kyiv, opened in honour of Paul’s deceased son.
