Deutsche Post World Net announces DHL Smart & Global Mail
Deutsche Post World Net have announced the launch of DHL Smart & Global Mail, uniting domestic and international mail industry leaders Deutsche Post Global Mail, SmartMail Services(R) and QuikPak(TM) under the premier DHL umbrella brand recognised around the world for excellence in shipping and logistics. While DHL Smart & Global Mail shares the DHL umbrella brand with DHL Express, the two companies will remain separate business units under the parent company, Deutsche Post World Net.
“Uniting these three industry leading companies and their services under the highly recognized and respected DHL brand is a major step forward in our growth in the U.S. market,” said Klaus Knappik, chairman of Deutsche Post World Net’s Divisional Board Mail International.
“Leveraging our combined networks, capabilities and expertise along with the DHL brand allows us to offer our customers the best single source for domestic and international mail and shipping in the market today,” added Bill Boesch, chief executive officer of DHL Smart & Global Mail.
Mail services, such as those provided by DHL Smart & Global Mail, provide large costs savings — in areas such as postage, equipment costs and overtime expenses — to companies with large volumes of mail. The mailing expertise behind DHL Smart & Global Mail makes the prospect of those savings even greater. By working with the USPS, DHL Smart & Global Mail combines numerous small-scale domestic mailings into large mail drops, and turns the mail over to the USPS for the final delivery to the addressee. For international mailings, DHL Smart & Global Mail offers mailers fast service and attractive rates to over 200 countries worldwide.
“We built our global delivery network of processing facilities to help the USPS maximize its strength and efficiencies,” concluded Boesch. “We will continue to foster our strong Workshare Partnership with the USPS and leverage their expertise in final mile delivery to stimulate mail growth within the US mail market.”
Deutsche Post Global Mail announced its intent to acquire both SmartMail Services and QuikPak on May 11, 2004. The acquisition of SmartMail Services closed May 28, 2004, and the acquisition of QuikPak closed June 28, 2004. These acquisitions produced the largest U.S. private mail service by combining Deutsche Post Global Mail, the market leader in international mail solutions, SmartMail Services, the market leader in U.S. domestic expedited flat mail and small parcel delivery services, and QuikPak, the nation’s largest provider of catalogue fulfillment services.
