German cartel office says Deutsche Post impeding market competition
The German cartel office said Deutsche Post World Net AG is impeding market competition by offering discounts of 3-21 pct to major companies for mass mail orders, which it does not offer to other mail service providers. The commercial collection, sorting and franking of letters under 100 grams is currently exclusively guaranteed to Deutsche Post under postal laws, which means it is in a position to prevent new competitors from entering the market, and discriminate against existing ones in its pricing policy. Deutsche Post is scheduled to lose its monopoly at the end of 2007 as part of an EU-wide move to liberalise the market for mail delivery.
