Dutch Selekt Mail expects to process up to 200 mln packages in 2005

Netherlands-based postal services company Select Mail Nederland, a joint venture of Dutch publishing group Wegener and German postal services company Deutsche Post AG expects to double the number of the processed packages in 2005 to some 200 million pieces, the company’s general director, John Kuiper, said on November 3, 2004.

According to the company, 2005 will be the third consecutive year, when Selekt Mail will double the annual number of processed packages. The company succeeded in doubling the processed packages number in 2003, therefore it posted a net profit for that year, Selekt Mail said. Kuiper did not provide a forecast for the company’s financial performance for 2004.

No financial details were available.

(Editor’s note: At the start of its operation in the middle of 2002, Selekt Mail said it would need to process between 30 and 40 million packages to break even. Deutsche Post holds a 51 pct stake, and Wegener a 49 pct stake in Selekt Mail. The company’s largest competitor in the Netherlands is postal, express and logistics company TPG NV.)
