DHL launches Service Points to the UK SME and consumer markets

International and domestic express delivery services will soon be even easier to enjoy, thanks to DHL. The world’s leading express and logistics company, is today extending its service offering to the SME and consumer markets with the launch of Service Points, a new gateway to DHL’s international network.
Currently in pilot phase in Chessington and Hounslow outside London, Service Points enables customers to take their parcels and documentation directly to a DHL ‘Service Point’ for international or domestic distribution. A service similar to that offered by the Post Office today. This innovative new service will soon see hundreds of DHL Service Points throughout the UK, bringing convenience to businesses and consumers like never before.

The offering, a brand new service for the UK market, provides customers with a suite of services at a highly competitive price and has been designed with simplicity and ease of use in mind. Customers are presented with five straightforward weight bands (200g-25kg) together with a straightforward pricing tariff split into four distinctive zones – UK, EU, US and Canada, and the rest of the world.

“Service Points provides easy access into DHL’s full range of services,” said Alan Winter, Commercial Development Manager at DHL. “With the ongoing and well publicised closure of sub Post Offices throughout the UK, we are offering customers a cost effective and convenient alternative for consigning their items throughout the UK and the rest of the world.”

DHL has implemented an extensive customer evaluation process in order to derive key learnings from the pilot ahead of official launch in 2005. The company is striving for an aggressive roll-out with the aim of establishing 1,000 Service Points in the UK by 2007.

The pilot is currently being run in the UK, Germany, Italy and Benelux.
