Portugal Q3 2004 Postal Traffic Revenue Down 0.6 Pct Y/Y

Portugal’s postal traffic revenue totalled 90.997 mln euros ($119.3 mln) in the third quarter of 2004, down by 0.6 pct year-on-year, local communications regulator Anacom said on January 17, 2005.

The third quarter of 2004 postal traffic revenue translated into a total 64.882 million shipments, with the national traffic totalling 56,733 million shipments, and the outgoing international traffic and the incoming international traffic totalling 5.124 million shipments and 4.021 million shipments, respectively.

The share of the country’s postal operator CTT – Correios de Portugal in the national postal traffic rose to 93.2 pct in the third quarter of 2004 from 93.1 pct in the second quarter of 2004. CTT’s share in the Portuguese outgoing postal traffic reached 94.2 pct in the third quarter of 2004 from the 92.7 93 pct the previuos quarter, while its share in the incoming postal traffic rose to 85.3 pct in the third quarter of 2004 from the 88.2 pct in the second quarter of 2004.

Anacom said that other postal service providers accounted for 60.2 pct of the express mail traffic in the three months to October 2004, against 60 pct in the second quarter of 2004.
