German Deutsche Post reshuffles management

German Deutsche Post is planning a management restructuring in its package and express delivery unit, it was reported on January 18, 2005.

As part of the restructuring, Deutsche Post board member Peter Kruse will step down from the executive management of the Express Germany business division, a Deutsche Post spokesman said. His duties will be taken over by Marco Demuth.

Kruse will instead focus on strategic development of the package delivery business in Europe.

At the same time, the company said it would merge its express delivery subsidiary Deutsche Post Express and package delivery subsidiary DHL Worldwide Express. The two units will be managed by Wolfgang Albeck. About 1,000 jobs will be affected by the move. The spokesman said the contracts of 500 employees had already been terminated, instead of 1,500 as reported in German media.

Deutsche Post aims to improve its market position in Germany through the restructuring move.
